Petition to change a minor child's name in Florida Circuit Court under § 68.07.

Florida § 68.07 also governs name changes for minor children.

Important requirements:

  • The petition must be filed by a parent or legal guardian;
  • Both parents must consent, or the court must find the change is in the child's best interest (e.g., one parent is absent, cannot be located, or has had parental rights terminated);
  • If the other parent does not consent, you may need to serve them with notice and attend a hearing;
  • Publication requirements are generally waived for minor name changes.
